What is prefecture wide CATV network concept?

When the government made the transition plan to terrestrial digital broadcasting network in early 2000, we learnt 70% of households in Tokushima would not be able to receive broadcasting from Kansai area due to the changes in its radio infrastructure. As a countermeasure, in cooperation with local governments, we implemented CATV network throughout Tokushima prefecture from 2002 to 2010. As a result, we were able to have a stable, prefecture-wide infrastructure to receive broadcasts from TV networks in other region.
In addition to this terrestrial digital broadcasting network,
- Implemented high-speed, large capacity, and stable internet infrastructure. (Now it’s available anywhere in whole prefecture)
- Implemented IP telephone network that can make free calls within the same area. (IP phones are time-free if groups are affiliated)
- Implemented broadcasting network of regional information such as local disaster prevention. (Using cable television to transmit community event information and disaster prevention instructions leads to a safe living environment)
Thus, in one fell swoop, Tokushima has become the “Kingdom of Optical network”.

Tokushima is a leading prefecture in broadband

In Tokushima, you can have the CATV network in a low cost with help of local government, even if you live in mountainous areas, where profitability is low and maintenance is difficult.
